The sound switches. Loud intensity and vibration. My body is permeated by the sound and radio waves. While watching the dancer move, I realize that all the cells of my own body are moving, oscillating, with the sound waves. The dancer runs across the stage, throws herself towards the floor, glides. This is my favorite song right now. I keep listening to it in my head. You know a song is good when you hear it in your background idle thoughts as clear as if it were coming through your headphones. I hear its rich textures, smooth synthesized bass and lush atmosphere. I smile at the end when I the campy tribal horn that comes right out an 80s song that I can't quite place. Early this morning David Bowie celebrated his 66th Birthday with the release of his first single in a decade. This song Where Are We Now?, taken from Bowie's forthcoming album The Next Day, is accompanied by an artful video directed by the contemporary artist Tony Oursler. I am happy to send this painting off to a new home in Calgary to live on the walls of a skiing family. Last March I posted an image of the study for this painting. The painting took quite a few turns along the way and I finally finished it a few weeks ago. [more]
